NFSA Former President, John Viniello Passes Away

Remembering a man with decades of service in fire protection

Linthicum Heights, MD – The National Fire Sprinkler Association (NFSA) is saddened to announce the passing of its former President John Viniello on Tuesday, February 26, 2019. John served the Association as president from 1984–2012 and was involved in the fire sprinkler industry since 1973.

Shane Ray, NFSA’s current president, shared the following:

“John’s contribution to the growth of the fire sprinkler industry is visible today in the number of personnel and the number of programs dedicated to advancing the mission of saving lives and property from fire through the widespread acceptance of the fire sprinkler concept. We extend our sympathies to John’s family and everyone who knew him. His legacy in fire prevention and safety will continue to have impact for years to come.”

John received the NFSA’s Golden Sprinkler Award in 2005 and was inducted into the NFSA Hall of Fame in 2013. He became a part of the fire sprinkler industry in 1973 and served in several positions for NFSA, from Assistant Director of Codes and Standards to Regional Manager for the Northeast to Vice President of Field Operations, until he became President in 1984. He was involved in the formation of the International Fire Sprinkler Association (IFSA) in 1999.
