Information
Wet-automatic
- Water supply valve automatically opens or system is always charged
- Water in entire system
- Has a water supply capable of supplying the system demand
Dry-automatic
- Water valve automatically operated
- Air in the system
- Has a water supply capable of supplying the system demand
Dry semi-automatic
- Water valve manually opened by an approved device
- No water in the system
- Has a water supply capable of supplying the system demand
Manual-dry
- Atmospheric air in the system
- Water supply must be provided by fire department pumpers
Manual-wet
- Water in the system
- Water supply must be provided by fire department pumpers


Class I
- Used by fire departments and trained individuals
- 2 1/2 inch hose
- Capable of effective hose streams to fight a fire in its advanced stages
- May be used for exposure protections


Class II
- Used by building occupants
- Hose size
- Capable of effective hose streams to fight a fire in its early stages
- Concerns – Delay in escape of occupants due to fighting the fire


Class III
- Combine Class I and II
- 1-1/2 inch hose
- 2-1/2 inch outlet
- Use either fire department or building occupants that are trained (See OSHA requirements)
