2026 NFPA Technical Meeting Voting Guide
The NFPA Technical Meeting, where Certified Amending Motions (CAMs) related to NFPA 1, NFPA 30, NFPA 101, and other key codes and standards will be debated and voted upon, will occur on June 25, 2026, in Las Vegas, Nevada. This guide outlines NFSA positions, voting recommendations, and important information for NFSA representatives attending the meeting.
NFSA’s Role in NFPA Codes and Standards
The fire sprinkler industry relies heavily on NFPA codes and standards to ensure fire protection systems are properly designed, installed, inspected, tested, and maintained to protect lives and property. The National Fire Sprinkler Association (NFSA), through its Engineering & Standards Committee (E&S), actively participates in the development and revision of these standards, with more than 90 NFSA members and staff serving on NFPA technical committees.
Technical Meeting Participation
A vital step in the NFPA standards development process is the Technical Meeting, commonly referred to as the Tech Session. NFSA strongly encourages all eligible NFPA voting members to participate in the Technical Meeting on June 25, 2026.
To be eligible to vote at the 2026 Technical Meeting, individuals must have been NFPA members on or before December 25, 2025.

NFSA Positions and Voting Guidance on CAMs
The NFSA Engineering & Standards Committee has established positions on the following Certified Amending Motions (CAMs). For CAMs not listed below, NFSA remains neutral and provides no voting recommendation.
- CAM No. 101-11: Board & Care Conversions — Support
Submitter: Jeffrey Hugo, NFSA
Supporting this CAM will require facilities undergoing conversions into small board and care occupancies to be protected with automatic sprinkler systems, aligning them with the sprinkler requirements already applicable to newly constructed small board and care facilities. This proposal advances life safety for vulnerable occupants and supports consistent sprinkler protection requirements within NFPA 101. - CAM No. 101-2: Valet Trash — Oppose
Submitter: Bill Koffel, Koffel Associates, Inc.
Opposing this CAM will retain the existing requirement in NFPA 101 that valet trash collection be permitted only in facilities protected throughout by automatic sprinkler systems. Maintaining this provision preserves an important life safety safeguard by recognizing the increased fire risk associated with combustible materials stored in egress corridors and common areas.
