NFSA Voting Guide for the 2025 NFPA Technical Meeting

The NFPA Technical Meeting discussing updates to NFPA 25, NFPA 855, and other key codes and standards will occur June 19-20, 2025, in Las Vegas, Nevada. This guide outlines NFSA positions, voting recommendations, and important information for NFSA representatives attending the meeting.

NFSA’s Role in NFPA Codes and Standards

The fire sprinkler industry heavily relies on NFPA codes and standards to ensure fire protection systems are properly installed and effectively operate to protect lives and property. The National Fire Sprinkler Association (NFSA), through its Engineering and Standards Committee (E&S), actively engages in revising these standards, with over 90 NFSA members and staff participating on numerous NFPA technical committees.

Technical Meeting Participation

A vital step in the NFPA standards revision process is the Technical Meeting, also known as the Tech Session. NFSA strongly encourages all eligible NFPA voting members to actively participate in the Tech Session scheduled for June 19-20, 2025. It should be noted that in order to participate in NFPA’s 2025 Technical Meeting, you must be a member of NFPA since December 21, 2024.

NFSA Positions and Voting Guidance on CAMs

The NFSA Engineering and Standards Committee has established positions on the following Certified Amending Motions (CAMs). For CAMs not listed below, NFSA remains neutral without a specific voting recommendation.

  • CAM 25-3 – Support Steven Schwartz, CFP Fire Protection, Inc.
Supporting this CAM restores the records cabinet requirement in NFPA 25, which was removed during the second draft.
Restoring this requirement ensures alignment with the corresponding requirement currently found in NFPA 13.
  • CAM 25-10 – Support Vince Powers, NFSA
Supporting this CAM will revert the language in Section 14.3.1(16) back to the 2023 edition text.
The proposed 2026 language from earlier drafts would require an obstruction investigation every time a nitrogen generator
    is placed in service…
  • CAM 855-21 – Oppose Craig Nixon, FirePro
Opposing this CAM maintains the reference to NFPA 13 in the NFPA 855, Section 4.9.4 list…

The NFSA is neutral on all remaining CAMs. Please return to this document on NFSA.org for updates and links to other organization voting guides.

Thank you for participating in the NFPA Technical Meeting. For questions regarding this voting guide, please contact NFSA’s Vice President, Jeffrey Hugo (hugo@nfsa.org), or Manager of Codes and Standards, Roland Asp (asp@nfsa.org).
