Last Thursday the National Fire Sprinkler Association Capital Region Chapter was proud to host the association’s first ever fishing tournament. Member employees from all over the region gathered for the event that featured eight boats.
The boats set out early in the morning from the Rod and Reel Marina in Chesapeake Beach, Maryland. The target species was striped bass, or—as the locals called them—rockfish. Anglers pursued these fish through trolling, a method that involves letting lures trail behind a slow-moving boat. The fleet experienced varying degrees of success, with some boats catching no fish while others completely limited out for the day!
There were some impressive catches amongst the anglers, with some rockfish measuring from 20 inches all the way up to 30! Jerry of Clark Construction brought in the day’s winning catch with a 32-inch rock fish!
After the boats came in for the day, anglers attended a brief awards ceremony and lunch. Chapter Chair Josh Shapiro thanked all those who attended and added that the chapter hopes to host more events like this in the future. The chapter gave away numerous awards, including small coolers as a conciliatory prize to the boat with no fish and a large personal cooler for the angler with the largest rockfish.
Dozens of anglers attended this event from several companies throughout the region, from Maryland and all the way up to New Jersey. The chapter raised thousands of dollars that went to the chapter and its efforts to advance the industry in Maryland.
The National Fire Sprinkler Association would like to thank those who participated in this event, especially the following sponsors: Continental Fire Sprinkler Company, Core & Main, Ferguson Fire & Fabrication, General Air, Reliable Automatic Sprinkler Company, and Victaulic.
