Area Interest Meetings in Florida

In January, the Florida Fire Sprinkler Association, a Chapter of NFSA, held nine Area Interest Meetings across the state. We started in Jacksonville, then onto Orlando, Tampa, Ft. Myers, Plantation, West Palm, Ft Walton Beach, Tallahassee, and ending in Gainesville. The title for our meeting in January was “Confused about 61G15-32?” The meeting taught the history of Florida’s unique fire protection permit document rules which dictate where fire protection engineering ends and where contractor shop drawings begin for fire sprinkler systems, fire alarm systems, smoke control systems, and other types of fire protection systems. Attendees learned the specific requirements of Florida’s engineering rules located in administrative code section 61G15-32, as well as applicable sections of Florida Statues. Other topics included common misconceptions, typical failures in the process and how to avoid them, recommended practices for all parties to enable a smooth design and permitting process, and available recourse when things go wrong. We had more than 325 contractors, AHJs and industry professionals attend these meetings. Our next round of meetings will be held in April with Victaulic presenting.
